These posts are meant to showcase the work of my students from Escena. I am not the creator of these pieces. I only served as one of several guides as these amazing artists started putting into practice what they'd learned during their first years of art school.
Marco Chavez, the director for Matilda la Tremenda, wanted to do something very different in terms of tine and style for his graduation short film for Escena Animation School. With producer Regina Garay they crafted the first attempt in my class to do comedy, as well as a deceptively simple rendering style that was actually quite a headache to achieve.
Their story revolves around Matilda and Lalito, bounty hunters of little renown and even smaller pocketbooks, who are about to bite on more than they can chew in their search for fame and treasure.
I'd known Marco since before he joined Escena and was delighted to see him grow year on year as an artist and animator. Working on this one was a lot of fun for me personally.
