These posts are meant to showcase the work of my students from Escena. I am not the creator of these pieces. I only served as one of several guides as these amazing artists started putting into practice what they'd learned during their first years of art school.
After Grizzlyman & Turnip, the next short to be completed at Escena Escena Animation School was Beyond Space, directed by Triz Alvarez and produced by Jess Bedolla for my final year class. Working as their teacher on this short was a treat from the first time Jess pitched a story, back then called Major Tom, about a frail old man who had always dreamed of being an astronaut as he sets out for one last adventure with his trusty feline sidekick Apollo.
They both went all in on it from the start and succeeded both in their personal contributions to the short and also in managing a large team that had to split up and work from home right as production was starting up due to the pandemic. It holds a very special place in my heart as their teacher to have been able to go along with them for the ride.
